Before you play

Asterveil is a custom Ragnarok campaign with slow progression and permanent character death under specific conditions. Read the death rules before creating a character you intend to keep.

Start through the Asterveil launcher and let it finish updating before you press Play. Its server indicator helps you check availability. Website access is separate from your game account; this wiki does not ask for your password.

Find the last lantern

  1. Create a fresh character for the complete opening story. New travelers wake under the old roped tree in the west of Payon (81,105), where a small light becomes your named Hearthling soul companion and speaks to you for the first time.
  2. Follow the lantern light east along the path to Edda, Keeper of the Last Lantern (110,106).
  3. Accept her opening and receive your reusable Hearth Lantern.
  4. Press J to open the Covenant Journal. Check your next objective and soul state before leaving town.
  5. Walk south into Payon Field 1. Hunt Porings or Lunatics and reach the objective shown in your journal, one careful fight at a time.

Pack for a return trip

  • Carry healing supplies and keep your important controls within reach.
  • Watch both HP and SP. A difficult server rewards retreat and preparation.
  • Learn enemy behavior before committing to larger groups.
  • Use account storage for supplies you do not need to carry.
  • If your companion possesses you, stop and reassess. A second death during possession is permanent.

Finish the quest with its keeper

When the objective is ready, return to the named keeper and choose Turn in a quest. This claims the reward and moves the main story forward, including opening a completed seal when appropriate. You do not need to find a separate ritual in Camp services.

The journal records your next step and walking directions. It cannot exchange items, summon guardians, or teleport you.

Your next milestones

At Novice Job Level 10, speak to Iona in Archer Village, north of Payon, to choose a first calling. She offers a short trial for each of the familiar jobs, and her Other paths include Blue Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, Taekwon, Ninja, Gunslinger and Super Novice.

Base Level 20 introduces the first seal and Echo hunts. Traditional second jobs require Job Level 40 in a compatible first job and two completed seals; custom jobs grow through their own techniques, summons, and passive lessons.

From Base Level 50 your class mentor has a personal story for you (see Class chapters), and from Base Level 99 the Veiled Depths wait beneath Juno.
