Your equipment is part of your strength

Weapons are a major part of physical damage, with your attributes helping them perform. Magic users need upgrades too: rods, staves, and books provide spell power. A strong character with an outdated weapon or focus will feel the difference.

DEF and MDEF provide meaningful protection. VIT and INT support your defenses rather than replacing armor, and critical hits still respect armor. Summoner equipment also contributes to the active summon's offense and protection.

Look beyond one large number

  • Compare the weapon's attack or spell power before choosing its extra bonuses.
  • Keep armor, magic defense, and useful elemental resistance up to date.
  • Match affixes, cards, refinements, and runes to the abilities you actually use.
  • Balance damage with recovery and protection. A fragile upgrade can cost more than it gains.

Match the threat

Physical or magical damage and an attack's element are separate considerations. DEF and MDEF do not replace resistance to a dangerous element. Choose attacks for the enemy's weaknesses and protection for the attacks you expect to face.

Some runes add a separate portion of elemental damage. They do not turn the entire attack into that element. Read the effect shown for the item receiving the rune.

The road becomes more demanding

Natural monsters grow more dangerous as you progress, making equipment upgrades important alongside levels and skills. Magic, Rare, and Mythic versions can be much tougher than an ordinary creature of the same species.

Enemies do not become stronger just because you equipped an upgrade. Better gear gives you a real advantage; it does not make every encounter safe.

Bleeding and Confusion

Some weapons and cards can inflict Bleeding, Confusion or a deadly poison on a hit.

Bleeding drains health over time and stops natural HP recovery; VIT and bleed resistance help you shrug it off. Confusion makes your steps wander near the place you clicked instead of landing on it; INT and LUK help resist it.

Unidentified finds

Weapons and armor dropped by monsters arrive unidentified. Identify them with a Magnifier, or a Merchant's Item Appraisal, before you can equip or upgrade them. See Item identification.

Try an upgrade before risking it

The Izlude Arena forecourt has ten elemental training targets beside the original dummy: Neutral, Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Poison, Undead, Dark, Holy, and Ghost. Their matching baseline stats make damage comparisons easier.

These targets do not attack or award experience, loot, or quest progress. Their special protections mean they are not a substitute for testing crowd control against ordinary monsters.
