One sky for everyone

Asterveil has a shared day and night that keeps running even when the server restarts. A full cycle takes about two hours of real time: a long day, a short dusk, and a night of roughly forty minutes.

The fields after dark

Monsters that appear on open fields at night are tougher and hit harder, but they carry more loot and give more experience. Monsters already fighting you when night falls do not change mid-battle.

Towns, dungeons and indoor maps keep their own hours and are not affected.

Who comes out at night

Some daytime townsfolk go home at night, and many weapon, armour and market shops close until dawn. Kafra Employees, inns, Stylists, Mailboxes and healers stay open.

  • Night watchmen with rumours about the region's most dangerous creatures.
  • Stargazers who can share a brief blessing once each night.
  • A fortune teller who reads the cards by moonlight.
  • Black-market dealers who stock things the shops will not, and leave at dawn.
  • Talkative patrons who trade a story for a drink.

Seasons and regional skies

Asterveil now has seasons. Each one lasts a real week, so the year turns every four weeks, and a new season is announced to everyone. The shared weather leans with the season: wet springs, bright and stormy summers, foggy autumns and snowy winters.

Each region reads the weather in its own way. In the cold north rain falls as snow, the deserts and volcanoes stay dry, the warm south never sees snow, the furnace towns sit under smoke, and Niflheim and Glast Heim stay in gloom.

Gathering after dark

Open field gathering sites give more experience at night, and some finds appear only then, such as Starlit Ore and night-biting fish. Rain, storms, fog, snow and the season change what bites and what turns up. Ask your trade's guild for today's conditions.

Night and the Asterveil classes

  • Blue Mages learn faster from night-empowered monsters, and Blood Siphon, Mana Leech and Wraith Lantern hit harder at night (Moonlit Lore).
  • A Summoner's Wisp Lantern lights the dark around them and reveals hidden monsters, and pacts hit harder at night.
  • A Red Mage's Disenchant can strip a monster's night empowerment, trading its extra loot and experience for a safer fight.
