Your first job

At Novice Job Level 10, Iona, Keeper of Names, in Archer Village north of Payon, helps you choose a calling. Each path begins with a short trial; Iona makes the change once you complete it. The new job starts at Job Level 1. Choose for the way you like to play, not an assumption that a class can ignore the death rules.

Three custom callings

These are additional choices at Novice Job Level 10, found under Iona's Other paths. The Arcane Mentor (Blue Mage and Red Mage) in Geffen and the Pact Keeper (Summoner) in Archer Village continue your training after the change.

Custom jobs remain at Job Level 1. They grow through Base Levels and their own systems, not the ordinary job-point skill tree: each earns class stats up to +30 through its own collection or mastery, has two learnable five-rank passives, and can take an advanced form through the Valkyrie at Base Level 99.

JobIdentityHow it learns
Blue MageThe scholar who copies monsters: study a foe, catch its move and Mimic it back.See techniques used in battle until you learn them, record species in the Azure Codex, and prepare three at a time (four later).
Red MageThe duelist who curses, then cuts: hex, thrust, hex, thrust, then spend the marks.Gather bound fragments and inscriptions, practise spells, and complete mentor trials; new spells arrive as you level.
SummonerThe conductor of four elements: bind pacts, shift spirits mid-fight and set off elemental reactions.Acquire pacts and train each spirit; later earn primal pacts in their trials, with a party or alone beside your called pact.

Earn a second calling

Traditional second jobs require Job Level 40 in a compatible first job, two completed seals, and the correct branch. Each is earned through a quest with its classic guild master, such as the Chivalry in Prontera or the Wizard Guild in Geffen Tower; any lantern keeper will tell you where to go. The new second job begins at Job Level 1. The Job change guide lists every step.

Custom jobs follow their own progression rather than these second-job branches. The level-175 cap does not imply that every later official job generation is available.

Your class's own story

From Base Level 50, every second class, the Taekwon line's second classes, Blue Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, Ninja, Gunslinger and Super Novice can follow a personal story with their mentor, in three chapters at Base Levels 50, 70 and 90. Each chapter ends in a duel, and the last brings a class title and a cosmetic. See Class chapters.

Expanded and transcendent classes

Super Novice, Taekwon, Ninja and Gunslinger are also chosen through Iona, each with a trial at its classic master. A Taekwon can later become a Star Gladiator or Soul Linker. See Expanded classes for every requirement.

A traditional second class at Base Level 99 and Job Level 50 can transcend in Juno's Sage Castle and keeps its level. See Transcendence.

New tricks for familiar classes

  • Archers can learn Arrow Crafting after Owl's Eye: turn materials from your bag into arrows.
  • The Sage's Abracadabra (also known as Hocus-pocus) now includes its classic rare outcomes, from turning a monster into a Poring to a sudden fortune. One outcome backfires and leaves the caster at 1 HP and SP, so mind your surroundings. Bosses and MVPs are immune to its tricks.
  • Merchants and their classes can use Item Appraisal to identify unidentified gear.

Retrain a build

If a build is not working out, visit the Retraining Tutor in Prontera's central plaza, south-east of the fountain. The tutor returns every skill point you have spent (Novice skills stay as they are) or sets your stats back so you can place your points again, free of charge. The tutor can also change your character's gender; Bards, Dancers, Clowns and Gypsies keep theirs.

A town Stylist changes your hairstyle and hair colour.

Build for a second encounter

  • Balance damage with enough resilience to survive an unfamiliar enemy.
  • Carry the supplies your actual skills use, rather than copying an unrelated server's shopping list.
  • Learn a new skill against manageable enemies before using it in a guardian fight.
  • Test your range, casting time, and escape route before committing to a group.
  • Use Hearth, Wick, or Gale as a modest complement to your build, not its entire foundation.

A starting guide, not a settled tier list

Asterveil's balance is still being tested. These are broad class identities, not a claim that every build is equally safe or that one path is guaranteed to clear the campaign.

Exact build recommendations and encounter-specific guides should be added as repeatable results emerge from the current server.
